Default Guild Allaince

[Disclaimer: I was not able to find a thread which satisfactorily touched on the suggestion I wish to make. If this is a duplicate suggestion, then I apologize and wish to see it removed.]

Problem I am part of a very small guild that exists solely to accomodate several of my real life friends. We all identify with the guild identity and have no desire to part ways with it. However, there are a scant few members of my guild [myself included] who wish to participate in more competitive aspects of Guild Wars gameplay. This is impossible to accomplish with my current guild members, yet I do not wish to abandon the guild simply to play GvG, etc.

Solution? In my humble opinion, a simple added feature for Guild Wars which would allow guilds to make in-game alliances with each other would provide a solution to this dilemma. Here's how it would work:

1) Guilds in alliance with each other would not be able to participate in GvG battles against each other or, perhaps, simply be unable to participate in ranked or recorded GvG battles [against each other].

2) Guilds in alliance with each other would determine a dominant guild for their allied relationship. This would allow players from the non-dominant guild to participate in GvG alongside members of their allied guild and remove any question about which guild would recieve credit. All credit, ranking, etc would be directed to the dominant guild.

3) I think that an alliance hall should be added. It wouldn't need to be anything as elaborate as the Guild Hall, but it could be a simple room where members from both allied guilds could meet together and speak together privately. I propose this addition sincle the existing Guild Hall seems directed toward use that is specific to people belonging to the guild [e.g. guild vault, guild practice, and other future guild hall additions].
Alternatively, members from guilds in alliance could freely visit each others' Guild Halls and congregate wherever they might like.

4) I would suppose that there should be some limitation on the number of guilds that could ally. I think it could possibly be more than simply two, but I don't think that the number should be unlimited per se. Perhaps there should be a cost associated with the alliance. Just thoughts.

5) When fighting in PVP or GVG, members would wear the dominant guild's cape. Makes sense to me.

*idea in progress, suggestions welcome*

I think something like this has already been planned for Chapter 2 (the upcoming expansion pack).

I think you can be invited as a GUEST, and you can participate in other guilds GvG, or you can invite GUEST, to participate in you guild GvG.

It would be nice if you and another guild could join together to do guild fights. They'd both be on the same guild screen, but they'd both have all the things they'd normally have. Also, a role of Recruiter would be nice. They could accept people into the guild but not kick.

Not intending to "hi-jack" your thread by any means. I posted this originally as a stand alone thread. Though after communicating with a mod here, we felt that adding more threads to pre-exsisitng topics wasnt exactly a good thing. So, im posting my "concept" of guild alliances in this thread in hopes of sparking some good discussion no the subject.

*As im coping pasting, some ideas will be redundant please excuse any such ideas*.

Guild Alliance’s and Alliance vs. Alliance PvP

Each Alliance will consist of at least 3 Guilds; an Alliance is not bound by a set number of guilds, but must be started and must maintain at least 3 guilds.

Creation of an Alliance

3 Guild leaders meet up in the same outpost / district, and speak with an NPC called [Alliance Registrar].

All 3 Guild leaders will need to be in a party during this process. All 3 speak with the NPC and indicate that they want to become an Alliance. All 3 must agree to the same Alliance name and Alliance tag. Once all 3 have spoken with the NPC and all 3 have submitted matching Names and Tags. The Alliance is born.

At this point, each of the 3 Guild Leaders becomes an Alliance leader. Alliance leaders can choose any member of the alliance to act as “Alliance Officers”. Someone may occupy an officer position in both Guild and Alliance.

Expanding the Alliance, this is done through the same method as creating an Alliance. Any one of the 3 current Alliance Leaders, party with the Guild Leader wishing to join the Alliance, speak to the NPC, then be placed into the Alliance.

Alliance ending; if at any point, an Alliance does not have at least 3 guilds registered to it, the alliance is disbanded. This is to help prevent stagnation, and “dead” Alliance’s polluting the Alliance listing.

Alliance Extras

Alliance Cape – The Alliance leaders may visit the cape NPC in the same fashion as the [Alliance Registrar]. They may at this time design and choose an alliance cape.

Individuals within the alliance will be given the choice between Guild Cape / Alliance Cape, however; during AvA (Alliance vs. Alliance) or GvG the appropriate cape will be forcibly shown, same as it is now. Same choice is given for which tag to display after your name.

Alliance Hall; The 3 leaders may also, choose out an Alliance Hall. This will be used as a gathering place for Alliance members, and a staging point for AvA battles. The Alliance Hall, which is really just a current guild hall, can be placed on the now un-used island directly south of the current Guild Hall island (to me this island resembles an ice cream cone…).

Inside the Alliance hall, there will be the standard henchmen who are now found in the current guild halls, as well as a new NPC the [Alliance Battle Master] and the [Alliance Record Keeper].

[Alliance Battle Master] – Job is to solely take requests to enter the arena, once an ABP (Alliance Battle Party) is formed, the leader of the ABP talks to the [Alliance Battle Master] to start the AvA battle.

[Alliance Record Keeper] – A Detailed record of wins / loss’s. Showing each battle, and which alliance the battle was fought against. Also, the Record Keeper has a current listing of all Alliance’s, sort able by, Name, Number of Guilds in the Alliance, Total number of Alliance members, and efficiency (more about the efficiency in a moment).

There would also need to be another chat “channel” created, Alliance Chat, quick key could be set to %. (Or the number 5)

Formation of an ABP.

At any time, any Alliance officer can start an ABP, using anyone who is currently a member of the Alliance. The leader can choose between facing a random opponent, or can “challenge” another ABP (from another Alliance).

AvA differs from GvG in a few aspects;

Ava is completely random, no waiting for another evenly ranked team. Some fights will be against low skilled players, some will be against higher skilled players.

There is no rating similar to GvG for AvA; instead, the Alliance will be given an efficiency rating. This rating will be based off the Win / Loss record for the alliance. So they better you do, the higher your efficiency rating will be.

There can be any number of ABP’s fighting at a time, from 1 alliance, provided each ABP has an Alliance Officer to lead it.

As this is an extension to GvG, all battles are held in the current GvG style, meaning you would be fighting the same style of match as if you were in a GvG battle, this would add a level of “practice” that some think (including myself) would be very helpful.

AvA would also eradicate the current “member on” constraint allowing for quicker battles, more battles per night.

An Alliance window could show every member of the Alliance by Guild, or just a list of all the Alliance members.

A note about guest rights.

Guests of a guild do not gain alliance privileges. There should be no Alliance guest options.

I am making it a personal campaign to get the functionality of a Alliance guild in the game. I agree that this is 100% needed. I have managed to get 6 guilds together as an Alliance. It has greatly enhanced our "community" interaction. We event held a christmas party at Lion's Arch that was very successful. But with out the function in the game we have "no teeth" but we are starting to get a "community" voice.

Don't let this topic die. If not our Alliance, form your own!

it is possible to circumvent the need for an ingame alliance mechanic. but your only band'aiding the actual problem.

That being; a guild is an island, the social network from a guild is extremely limited, most players would go thier entire GuildWars life without reaching outside thier guild box.

What this would do is create an ingame mechanic that would allow guilds to become more interconnected. Extending the already exsisting island into an entire island chain.

I am fairly certain there was a petition for guild wars alliances between guilds, but I feel that I must sign once again for it in this good-idea-rich thread.

I'd really like to keep this thread alive!

There are some great ideas here for the Alliances! I guess we'll see if this comes with Factions, but I certainly agree that this would be helpful, especially for smaller guilds who want to reamin independant but would like to participate more easily in PvP content.

This is especially poinant to me as I have recently tried to merge my very small guild with another guild with the sad result of 'not at this time'. They seem to be an excellent guild and everything I would want in a guild if we are surrendering our own identity, but for now it's not going to happen.
